SJP Preparation Steps

Upon receiving your SJP Placement selection email–

First browse the available options at the SJP 2017-2018 Internship Registration page, the link was provided in your email.

Second, choose a placement that challenges you and best fits with your goals. Then scroll to the bottom of the page where the project is listed, and fill out that project’s registration form.

Third, once you have successfully registered, you will receive an email as well as a notification on screen notifying you that your registration was recorded. If you have not successfully registered, you will not receive an email or the notification.

Fourth after you get your email stating you have successfully registered, please contact your Site Supervisor to set-up your initial meeting to begin your SJP. Follow the “Getting Started with SJP Checklist,” located in our Knowledge Repository section.

Fifth check your schedule and attend your SJP Workshops, these take place throughout the months of September, October, November, January, February, and March; you will have been registered for this already and it will be in your schedule.

Sixth begin your practicum no later than first week of October. If you were not able to select a placement, email mjoyce@adler.edu before the end of September.

Initial Visit

During your initial visit you should also discuss the forms that you will be responsible for throughout the SJP such as, the hour log and student evaluation. You should also mark your calendar to complete these forms to ensure that they will be submitted on time.

While meeting with your Site Mentor you should request a day to complete on-boarding processes which may include completing intern paperwork, fingerprinting, background checks, and any other steps that the site requires at the beginning of an internship.

Before concluding your meeting, you should be mapping out a clear timeline with your site mentor that determines when all on-boarding processing should be complete, when you can begin working on your projects, hour-log tracking documentation deadlines, and project deadlines.  By creating this schedule for the SJP, you and/or your team will be able to approach this experience with organization and more importantly, a mechanism for time management.
